Learn how to elevate your technique, gain inspiration, and discover your creative style by walking in the footsteps of the Masters on this mixed media art course.

What are the foundations that underpin a piece of art? What are the techniques used by artists to create a masterpiece?

On this course, we will look at how to take inspiration from the masters to create our own artwork. Over the course of 10 weeks we will explore: Charcoal John Singer Sargent style portraits, soft pastel Edgar Degas style ballerinas, oil or soft pastel Monet style lily ponds, acrylic paint blossom branches in the style of Vincent Van Gogh and acrylic style Georgia O’Keeffe paintings using seasonal flowers from the florists.

Beginners guides & intermediate – advanced options available, with extension tasks for the confident artist.

Classes run for three hours and take place at:

13th/14th January 2026 - 24th/25th March 2026
(Half Term Break: 17th & 18th February 2026).

How is the Course Structured?

The Beginners – Intermediate classes will contain Step-By-Step Guides and resources to support those who need it, as well as intermediate - advanced options for more confident artists.

The Mixed Ability Classes will still contain the Beginners Guides for those who need it, as well as more challenging references for the intermediate & advanced artist. These classes also contain Extension options to inspire more confident artists to create their own compositions.

The Beginners & Mixed Ability class will take place on:

Tuesday mornings, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM.

The Mixed Ability classes will take place:

TUES 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM,

WED 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM

WED 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM.

Please note that we will have a half term break on the 17th and 18th of February 2026.

Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before the class is due to start to allow time to get a cuppa and catch up with your classmates.
If you are caught in traffic or life is causing delays, then please don’t worry - we will have a cuppa waiting for you when you arrive.

There is free parking in front of and alongside All Saints Church Hall.
Please note, to access the hall, you must turn off from Church Road. Sat Nav and Google Maps may try to lead you down ‘Camp View’ but please ignore this – there is no access along there. Instead turn onto Church Road off either Down Road or Mill Road.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided at the beginning of each class and in a halfway tea break. If you have any dietary requirements such as gluten free, or plant-based milk, or any allergies we need to be aware of, please email me before the course is due to start.

 

Refund Policy

• If a course is cancelled by Brushstrokes Courses Ltd and cannot be moved online, you will be fully reimbursed for any classes that have not been delivered.

• If a student misses a class due to sickness, holiday, or any other reason, no refunds or discounts can unfortunately be given. Course notes, guides and materials will be distributed for missed sessions.  

• If a student is unable to attend their allocated class, there may be a space in the other 3 groups you could swap onto. Please phone, email or text or check for availability before arriving into another class.

• If a student wishes to drop out of a course and an artist on a Waiting List is able to fill the space, a refund may be possible. Due to upfront venue hire, materials costs, admin costs, lesson planning and staff costs, refunds without being able to fill any missing spaces may not be possible.

All art materials are included within the cost of the course.

Where Can I Find the Teaching Resources and Reference Images?

All the Teaching Resources & Reference Images for the class will be provided in class.

In an effort to be sustainable and reduce waste, print outs of all the resources needed for the course will not be provided to take home. Instead, all resources will be emailed out before each class for students to access at home.
Can I Use My Own Reference Images?

Yes of course, however please make sure you read through the below copyright notice as infringement of copyright law may result in Brushstrokes Courses Ltd classes being forced to close and face legal action.

Artist Studies: In a personal setting, you can only copy the work of another artist if they have been deceased for over 70 years. In a commercial setting, we can only study the work of an Artist (that has been deceased for 70 years), if the photograph of the work is owned by Brushstrokes Courses Ltd. This is UK Copyright Law and must be abided within any Brushstrokes Courses Ltd art class.

Phone Policy

For many of our artists, these sessions act as their escapism from busy lives. We ask you to help preserve this creative space by putting your phone on silent/vibrate when the class starts. If you need to take a phone call, then please feel free to take it outside the room in the hallway.
