'En Plein Air' Summer Workshop - Winterbourne Down.

from £120.00

Learn how to find inspiration to fill your summer sketchbooks.

How do you begin with framing a composition for your sketchbook? Which art materials are easily transported for ‘en plein air’ drawing. How can you take a sketch and transform it into a realised final piece?

On this workshop, we will take inspiration from the surrounding scenery of Winterbourne Down (reference images will be provided if the weather is not on side!) using both classical & modern techniques. You will then have an opportunity to use our studio materials to transform your sketches into a fully realised final piece.

Workshops run across two days.

How is the Course Structured?

The Beginners – Intermediate artists will be provided with tuition, support and Guides to help inform their work.

Advanced  artists will be supported to use their own unique style to complete their sketches and realise a final piece.

The workshops will take place:

10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Day 1: Sketch Book.

AM: We start the day with looking at mark-making, perspective & composition. We will experiment with: sketching pencils, charcoals, pen & wash, watercolour pencils and watercolour paint

PM: After lunch, we will explore Winterbourne Down and begin to fill your sketchbook. Be inspired by the local scenery, surrounding flora & fauna, the neighbour’s cat, or even portraits of each other! If the weather is not on our side, there will be images to work from. At the end of the afternoon, we will return to All Saints Church Hall to share our work.

Day 2: En Plein Air or Final Piece.

AM: We start the day with revisiting our sketches from the previous day. You will then choose to either continue to work ‘en plein air’ around the village or use your sketches from the previous day to start a final piece in the studio.

PM: After lunch, you will continue with your final pieces at Winterbourne Down using your sketchbooks to inspire your choice.
