How do you create textures within landscapes? How is it possible to capture the atmosphere of a landscape, whilst creating something contemporary and visually impactful?

On this course, we will have a deep dive into mark-making & texture using both classical & modern techniques. Over six weeks, we will look at three different ways of capturing texture using different mediums. We will be taking inspiration from textures both in everyday vistas and far off lands.

Subject Matters Include:

1.    Charcoal Woodlands,

2.    Pen & Wash Villages,

3.    Acrylic Paint & Palette Knife Angkor Wat.

In-Person Bristol Classes run for two hours and take place on:

Thursday 6th June - Thursday 11th July 2024.

COURSE STRUCTURE

How is the Course Structured?

The classes will take place on Thursday evenings, 6:30pm – 8:30pm. The class will start promptly, so please allow time to be ready to start at 6:30pm.

The weekly task will contain differentiated options:

 Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced & Extension.

This allows you to choose which variant suits your own personal experience with the subject matter & medium.

 Where is the venue?

The studio for the course is ‘The Westcott Studio’ at The Kingswood Estate. The Westcott Studio is the first arch to the left, after the roundabout, when looking towards The Kingswood Estate Reception.

There is free parking in front of The Kingswood Estate and has Disabled Access. Please bring your own tea or coffee in a flask.

What is your Refund Policy?

 

·         If a course is cancelled by Brushstrokes Courses due to unforeseen circumstances, and cannot be moved online, you will be fully reimbursed for any classes that have not been delivered.

 

·         If a student misses a class due to sickness, holiday, or any other reason, no refunds or discounts can unfortunately be given. Course notes, guides, video links and materials will be distributed for missed sessions.

 

·         If you wish to drop out of a course and an artist on a Waiting List can fill your space, a refund may be possible. Due to upfront venue hire, materials costs, admin costs, lesson planning and staff costs, refunds without being able to fill your space may not be possible.

 


Materials

Materials are included within the cost of the course.

If you have purchased an Artist Kit, this will be given to you on the first day of the course.

Some materials may be available to purchase from Brushstrokes via cash or contactless in class.

 


Where Can I Find the Teaching Resources and Reference Images?

All the Teaching Resources & Reference Images for the class will be available to use in class.

To be more sustainable and reduce waste, print outs of all the resources needed for the course will not be provided to take home. Instead, they will be reused for future classes.

All resources will be emailed out before each class for students to print off for their own home copies.

If you are unable to attend a class or wish to work on your art after the session, but don’t have a printer, you are welcome to borrow any resource to take home.

Can I Use My Own Reference Images?

Yes, bring your own images or use your own photography, however, please make sure you read through the below Copyright notice.

Artist Studies: You can only use the work of another artist to create a study if they have been deceased for over 70 years. This is Copyright Law.

You must own the copyright license for any found portrait image (this includes photographs of celebrities). If you do not have the copyright permission, you can use the below websites to search for copyright free images to use:

Can I Switch to Online?

If you cannot make an in-person class and wish to attend the Monday evening online class 6:30pm – 8:30pm on Zoom, you are very welcome to do so.

The Landscape Course starts each week with the online Monday session, with the in-person on the following Thursday. Please let me know as much in advance as possible if you wish to switch online. online.
