Develop your technique and refine your creative voice, drawing inspiration from the life cycles throughout this mixed media art course.

Which key techniques give an artwork strength and character? How can the natural world enrich and inform our own creative practice?

Across 10 weeks, we will create a series of mixed media pieces inspired by nature, each designed to be completed as a satisfying one-week project. Subjects will include charcoal mushrooms, soft pastel abstract landscapes, soft pastel autumn leaves, coloured pencil butterflies, watercolour botanicals, pen-and-wash jellyfish, pen-and-gouache contemporary stags, acrylic underwater seascapes, and acrylic winter wonderlands.

Beginners guides & intermediate – advanced options available, with extension tasks for the confident artist.

Classes run for three hours and take place at:

22nd/23rd September 2026 - 1st/2nd December 2026
(Half Term Break: 27th & 28th October 2026).

How is the Course Structured?‍ ‍

The Beginners & Mixed Ability classes offer step-by-step guidance and thoughtfully prepared resources for those who would benefit from extra support, alongside intermediate and advanced options for more confident artists.

The Mixed Ability classes include beginners’ guides for those who would like additional support, alongside more challenging reference material for intermediate and advanced.

The Beginners & Mixed Ability class will take place on:

Tuesday mornings, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM.

Tuesday 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Wednesday 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Wednesday 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Please note that we will have a half-term break on 27th and 28th October 2026.

We kindly ask that you arrive 15 minutes before class begins, allowing time for a cuppa and a relaxed catch-up with your classmates.
If you are delayed by traffic or a busy day, please don’t worry—we will have a warm welcome waiting for you when you arrive.

Free parking is available in front of and alongside All Saints Church Hall.
When travelling to the venue, please note that access to the hall is via Church Road. Sat Nav and Google Maps may direct you to ‘Camp View’, but there is no access from there. Instead, please turn onto Church Road from either Down Road or Mill Road.

Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available at the start of each class and again during a midway tea break. If you have any dietary requirements, such as gluten-free options, plant-based milk, or allergies we should be aware of, please email me before the course begins.

Refund Policy

• If a course is cancelled by Brushstrokes Courses Ltd and cannot be moved online, you will receive a full refund for any classes that have not been delivered.

• If a student misses a class due to illness, holiday, or any other reason, refunds or discounts cannot be offered. Course notes, guides, and materials will be provided for missed sessions.

• If a student is unable to attend their allocated class, there may be space to swap into one of the other three groups. Please phone, email, or text in advance to check availability before attending an alternative class.

• If a student wishes to withdraw from a course and an artist on the waiting list is able to fill the space, a refund may be possible. As venue hire, materials, administration, lesson planning, and staffing costs are committed in advance, refunds may not be possible if the place cannot be filled.

Where Can I Find the Teaching Resources and Reference Images?

All teaching resources and reference images for the course will be provided during class.

To reduce waste and support sustainability, printed copies of course resources will not be provided to take home. Instead, all materials will be emailed before each class so that students can refer to them at home.

Can I Use My Own Reference Images?

Yes, absolutely. However, please read the copyright guidance below carefully, as infringement of copyright law could place Brushstrokes Courses Ltd classes at risk of closure and legal action.

Artist Studies: In a personal setting, you may only copy the work of another artist if they have been deceased for more than 70 years. In a commercial setting, we may only study the work of an artist who has been deceased for more than 70 years where the photograph of the artwork is owned by Brushstrokes Courses Ltd. This reflects UK copyright law and must be followed in all Brushstrokes Courses Ltd art classes.

For many of our artists, these sessions offer a welcome opportunity to step away from the pace of daily life. To help preserve this calm, creative atmosphere, we kindly ask that phones are placed on silent or vibrate when class begins. If you need to take a call, please feel free to step into the hallway outside the room.
